Expert Podiatric Care

At The Shire Podiatry Your foot and ankle practitioner, we provide comprehensive foot and ankle care in a comfortable and friendly environment. Our team of experienced podiatrists diagnose and treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, from common ailments to complex injuries.

Custom Orthotics for flat feet high and arch feet

We design and create custom orthotics  to fit your unique foot shape and gait. Our custom orthotics are made from high-quality materials and are designed to provide maximum comfort and support for your feet.

How do Custom Orthotics help with foot pain?

 1. Reduce pressure on the foot: Orthotics can help to redistribute the weight and pressure on the foot, reducing the stress on painful areas such as the heels, arches, and toes.
2. Improve alignment: By supporting the foot and ankle in their proper position, orthotics can help to improve alignment and reduce the risk of overpronation or other biomechanical issues that can cause foot pain.
3. Provide cushioning: Orthotics can provide cushioning and support for the foot, which can help to reduce shock and pressure that can contribute to foot pain.

General podiatric skin and nail care Geriatric Foot Care and Diabetic assessments

As we age, our feet can develop a range of conditions, including arthritis and neuropathy. Our podiatrists have the expertise and experience to provide comprehensive foot care for seniors, including preventive care and treatment for foot conditions. Corns, Callus, Ingrown toe nails.

 Neurovascular assessment

A comprehensive is crucial in podiatry to identify any potential neurological or vascular issues that may be affecting the feet and ankles. The assessment should include a thorough history-taking, physical examination, and appropriate diagnostic tests to evaluate the neurological and vascular systems.

Forefoot pain Neuroma, Bursitis, Tailor's bunion, Bunion, Sesamoiditis, Plantar plate tear or ruptur

Neuromas: are painful nerve growths that can develop in the ball of your foot. Our podiatrists provide expert treatment for neuromas, including dry needling , shockwave therapy, laser therapy and footwear modification to alleviate pain.

Bursitis: is inflammation of the fluid-filled pads (bursae) that act as cushions at the joints. It often occurs at joints that perform frequent repetitive motion.

Biomechanics and foot posture has a large role to play in bursitis, especially with repetitive activity. Poor foot mechanics can generally be corrected with appropriate footwear and custom orthotics.

Tailor's bunion: Also known as a ‘bunionette’, this condition is a small bony bump that develops on the side of the base of 5th little toe.

Bunionettes commonly occur due to ill-fitting footwear. This can include narrow or tight shoes, pointy shoes, or high heels. This is because they force the little toe towards the rest of the other toes, leaving it permanently in this position over time.

Bunion:  What is the main cause of bunions? Eventually, a bunion forms on your MTP joint when your body compensates for your toe being pushed out of its usual place. The most common causes of extra pressure on your big toe joint include: Wearing narrow or pointed shoes that crowd your toes (shoes with a narrow toe box). The way you walk (your foot mechanics)

Sesamoiditis : is a specific kind of tendonitis — inflammation of the tendons — that occurs in the ball of the foot. Because the tendons in the ball of the foot have small sesamoid bones embedded in them, these bones can become inflamed along with the tendons.

A plantar plate tear: is a more serious plantar plate injury. It occurs when the plantar plate ligament actually tears off either the metatarsal or toe. This tear can cause the toe to sit in a funny shape or in an odd direction – which may cause even further issues such as hammer toes, corns and calluses

If you've noticed pain in the ball of your foot and your second toe “popping up” or drifting out of alignment, give us a call

Plantar Wart Treatment

Plantar warts can be painful and unsightly, but our podiatrists can provide effective treatment. We use a range of  evidence based treatments, to get rid of your wart and restore healthy skin.

Toe Deformity Treatment

Toe deformities, such as hammertoes and mallet toes, can cause pain and discomfort. Our podiatrists provide expert treatment for toe deformities, including custom orthotics and, if necessary referral to a podiatric surgeon to  minimally invasive surgery to realign your toes.

Ingrown toe nail Onychocryptosis,

It's important to note that if you have diabetes, nerve damage, or poor circulation, you should seek medical attention immediately, as these conditions can increase the risk of complications from ingrown toenails.

An ingrown toenail, also known as onychocryptosis, is a common condition where the edge of the toenail grows into the surrounding skin instead of over it. This condition primarily affects the big toe but can occur in any toenail.

Ingrown toenails can cause pain, swelling, redness, and infection in the affected area. The most common causes of ingrown toenails include improper trimming of nails, wearing tight-fitting shoes, trauma to the toe, genetic predisposition, and certain foot deformities. Additionally, factors such as poor foot hygiene and excessive sweating can increase the risk of developing ingrown toenails.

When an ingrown toenail occurs, it is important to seek proper treatment to prevent complications.

In more severe cases, a healthcare professional may perform a minor surgical procedure called a partial nail avulsion. This procedure involves removing part of the affected nail and sometimes applying a chemical or laser treatment to prevent regrowth of the ingrown portion. In rare cases where ingrown toenails become chronic or recurrent, complete removal of the nail may be considered.

ESWT is an advanced treatment that uses acoustic shockwaves to break up soft tissue calcifications, enhance collagen synthesis, release growth factors, and stimulate your body’s healing process to improve pain and help you stay active.

This therapy enhances blood circulation and accelerates the healing of stubborn musculoskeletal conditions  in bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscle.

Magnetotherapy works by using magnetic fields to stimulate healing in the body. These can penetrate the soft tissue of the body and reach the bones, making them a useful tool for treating muscle and bone injuries.

When the therapy is applied, magnetic fields penetrate the body and stimulate the flow of blood and oxygen to the affected area.

Magnetotherapy can be helpful in treating a variety of conditions, including:

– Muscle injuries: It can help reduce pain and inflammation in injured muscles, speeding recovery.

– Bone injuries: This procedure can help stimulate healing in fractured or injured bones.

– Arthritis: It is able to help reduce pain and inflammation in joints affected by arthritis.

Dry Needling breaks down scar tissue, increases range of motion, increases blood for healing

Dry needling

Cupping therapy

When dry needling is applied to an affected muscle or trigger point, it can decrease muscle tightness, increase blood flow and reduce pain. Patients often report immediate relief after treatment.

Cupping increases blood circulation at the point of the injury. reduces tension and spasms.
